Why use a meditation cushion?
There are so many reasons to practice yoga: to increase flexibility, to build strength, to reduce stress, to experience community. It’s easy to forget that its original purpose was to prepare the body for the stillness of meditation.
Sitting comfortably in an unsupported cross-legged (or lotus) position means sitting tall, and maintaining the natural curves of the spine. This position requires a level of mobility in the ankles, knees, and hips that most of us don’t have.
The result: cramping, pinching, and slumping that makes it tough to focus on anything other than when you can get up again.
So finding a comfortable sitting position, where the body is at ease, is really important. The other benefit of an easeful sitting posture is that when you're not using your core muscles to hold you up, your breath can flow more easily. This also helps you maintain your energy while sitting. You could try meditating on the chairs (or) simply sit on the floor. Eventually, though, if you’re not sitting upright on a chair (or) on the floor, you’ll probably do well to buy a dedicated meditation cushion.

Types of meditation cushions:
